During last night's (Wednesday) telecast of the CMT Artist of the Year event,  Chris Young presented Kane Brown the award and said that Kane "felt it was important to be here tonight. So I'm very proud to present this to my friend, Kane Brown."

When Kane made it to the stage, he dedicated the award to his drummer, Kenny Dixon that was killed in a car crash over the weekend. Through the tears he said "He started with me, coming out of Chattanooga on Facebook. People didn't think we'd make it. He was with me the whole time." The audience sat silent and listened as he talked about how supportive Kenny was of Kane.

Thomas Rhett also took a moment to talk about Kane and Kenny. He said "I don't know if this is conventional, but can I just pray"
